Matchawan Sumomo with a spout

\n\n\n\n

The Sumomo Matchawan is the latest in our collection of matcha bowls, one of the key elements of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Its distinctive shape, with low walls and wide bottom, allows for easy whisking and creating a perfect froth known as the "jasper mousse." The spout prevents you from spilling your matcha when you pour it into a glass. The bowl takes its name from the Japanese plum. One Japanese legend has it that sumomo plums, made as a gift to the gods, helped a famous warrior, Minamoto Noriyoshi, win a battle. The Japanese believe that eating Sumomo plums helps ward off evil spirits and disease.
